We continue to be touched by all your words of encouragement, prayer, and support on our behalf from home. We don't know what we would do without each and every one of you. Kim (from Senator Wicker's office) has told us how impressed and touched she is with the volume of support.
We received an e-mail from the Kathmandu embassy early today telling us that the Nepal government has verbally agreed to extend the 60 day (from travel date) rule for signing the adoption decree (the U.S. is working on getting this in writing). We have also been told that our paperwork is submitted and we are in the queue for the investigation.
One of the Senators staff e-mailed earlier today as well and updated us that there are now 11 U.S. couples in the country to finalize the adoption. Like us they know that in order to begin the process they must be in country and they also saw the 60 day adoption decree rule. This jump in couples is probably putting stress on our embassy's system to process each case.
Our lawyer representing us here in Nepal was able to find an important original newspaper article from 3 1/2 years ago that requests the parents of our child come forward to claim him. Obviously they did not - but we are hoping that since this is not a fabrication it will help our case. From a previous post you know we were fighting some documents that were said to be expired. That is almost done as our updated fingerprints (done back in June) are only one step from our Embassy.
Unfortunately, we have no idea of a time-line until the investigation is complete. This makes making decisions much more difficult. Right now there is nothing for us to do in Nepal except wait. We will continue to visit our child, always looking out for his best interest in this entire process.
We understand that a meeting between Senator Wicker and the embassy here may be going on as I type this. We know they are working hard to get us home with our child. Please continue to fight for us. We hate to ask, as it is not in the Brown's to ask for help, but we can't do this ourselves half way across the globe. We are trying to maintain a positive outlook, but admittedly it is very difficult.
We are here during the rainy season and it has rained everyday. When not raining it is just cloudy - so we have not been able to see the mountains during our first week here. Hopefully that will change.
This morning while checking e-mail we spotted two rather large monkeys were on the roof across the street. I guess they were not welcome as a man came out of the apartment and chased them with a stick - something you won't see to often in Starkville.
I love this kind of update. They can't deny facts! We love you and pray non-stop!
ReplyDeleteDad and I continue to pray for all of you. How wonderful to see that our e-mails and prayers are working. We know that the journey ahead will still be rough, but hope comes to us as water to the lips of a thirsty man. Our prayers and our love are always with you.
