Embassy No Help

We had our second meeting with the U.S. Embassy here in Nepal today and received much of the same news as before. The greatest set back is that they are telling us that the investigation will likely take two to three months. The problem with this is that the Nepal government gives you 60 days from the invitation to travel to sign your adoption decree. Therefore we have until Sept. 22nd to adopt the child from Nepal. We can do this without the visa from the U.S. However, if the visa is denied, we would be the legal guardians of the child in eyes of both the U.S. and Nepal, but he could not come to the U.S. with us, and he could no longer stay in his orphanage as they would no longer have custody of him. When we brought up the Nepal rules to our embassy we were told "we don't care, those are the Nepal government guidelines and we have nothing to do with them.".

We care far too much for this child to potentially leave him abandoned here in Nepal after a successful adoption but a denied visa. We will wait and hope that our folks in Washington D.C. can apply significant pressure to our embassy in Nepal and that they will respond as we hope. From what we have experienced, we do not hold out much hope of a positive response.

  1. Thank you for the updates; I know they must not be easy to compose. If the embassy needs pressure, we're sending it! SOOO many people are sending emails and making phone calls. And, I'm petitioning God to put the ultimate pressure on them. My heart aches for you. I feel like my every thought is about the three of you, and with every thought, I pray for good news to come soon.

  3. Don't give up yet! The Geosciences Department is now working with the MSU President's office to try to get you some help. We have been warned, however, not to pressure the Nepalese embassy too much. It could have a negative effect. We must all be patient and polite. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers remain with you.

  5. Yes, please don't give up yet!! I've sent an email to both of you with some information on it. Maybe it will help a little or at least give a little bit of hope. It's got a few questions in it as well. If you have time, let us know what you think.
You are both constantly in our thoughts and prayers. I don't think any of us who read your blog can tell you that enough!!

  7. Don't give up hope. God always pulls through, sometimes not in our timing though. He loves you and Mike and he loves your child too. He won't leave either of abandoned. He's going to provide for all of you. I think he is letting all of this happen for a reason - maybe to change the way things are done - i don't know, but I do know you've followed where you feel he's led you and he blesses obedience. I love you so much and I'm praying constantly for you. Maybe all of this is happening so that when you are able to bring him home EVERYONE will know that it was a God thing. Hold fast.

    I love you all.
