Today we brought Mango juice and Ritz crackers for the children to enjoy at the orphanage. It was a big hit, especially with our child. His nickname at the orphanage is Mo-To (pronounced Moe-Too). Mo-To in Nepalis means fat. Everyone at the orphanage calls him by this name even the other children. However, unlike the U.S. fat means healthy and is meant as a compliment. Nevertheless, he ate more than his share of crackers and drank is body weight in juice. He requested that tomorrow we bring chocolate. Not just any chocolate, he wants a specific brand which we were lucky to find in a local grocery store near our hotel.
Our hotel is nice and seems to be the headquarters for all international travelers. Although the water is brown, it does get hot for showers about every other day. We do have air-conditioning in the room which works well as long as the power is on. Kathmandu experiences about 11 hours of no power each day as crews work on the hydroelectric plants. The area where we are staying has generator support so we are rarely in the dark for more than 10-15 minutes.
A small bit of good news today - we understand that our Nepal lawyer was contacted by the embassy in order to get information about our orphanage. Hopefully this means that we are close to beginning the investigation. Pray this is true.

Oh, I love his nickname!! That is so cute. And, Avi will be very proud that he loves chocolate! She'll have to teach him the finer points of eating M&Ms! Her favorite. He just sounds precious, and I know God has put him in your lives for a reason. We love and miss you guys! Stay strong and faithful.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful little boy! This is all good news (except maybe the power outages). Hang in there and enjoy the adventure. Way back in my student days, when the semester got really rough, I would stop, close my eyes and imagine how wonderful things would be once I finished finals. I know now that imagination can’t change everything, but I still try to dream. I’m sure it helps to ponder the positive.
