A Pleasant Encounter

A few days ago we met a young lady who came up to us and asked if we were adopting Diwas (I can't imagine why, as he looks just like us). She told us that she was from Nepal and had been adopted many years ago by a Spanish couple. She has come back on a two year Visa to become familiar with Nepal. Today we ran into her again and she insisted that we come to a cafe and have tea with her. She kept telling Diwas how lucky he was. She told us how much she has enjoyed being back in Nepal and how she likes the culture of the region.
We understand how lucky we are and we are beginning to believe that Diwas is also lucky. There are many people including children who beg for survival in the streets of Kathmandu. On the way to the zoo we passed a child (maybe 12 years old) taking care of a child (maybe 2 years old). The older child was scratching through the dirt of a corner lot unearthing seeds and rotten food for them to eat. Here sat Diwas with is new clothes, full belly, and on the way to the zoo. It is often scary to think about the what if's.
Without question the Nepalese are some of the most friendly and giving people we have ever met. They are self-reliant, never self-absorbed, and will share what little they have with you. We hope we can raise this child to be just like that.

  1. He is lucky, you are lucky, everyone who reads this is lucky. We should all remember and pray for those who are not so fortunate. Bless them all.

  2. What a neat experiencw! You guys have fought long and hard to have little Diwas. As Brenda said, we need to continuously remember how fortunate we are and how blessed we are in this country. Love you all, and I know you will make sure Diwas understands his roots and the larger societal obligations we all have.

  3. You hope you can raise this child to be just like that? I think you've already started and will only continue to do so. You're great people that will make even better parents!

Oh, more pressing...I am sure De-Boss will be a fan of De-Bears, but please tell me he will also be a CUBS fan?
