August 6th
One year ago today we learned that the U.S. government had suspended adoptions from Nepal. Of course we were 2-days away from leaving to get Diwas. It worth reiterating that fraud was NOT found in any of the 62 cases. Yet the suspension continues and there are children who may never get to be with their families. It is embarrassing that my country backed down to activist groups such as UNICEF. For those who don't know UNICEF it is worth familiarizing yourself to this group. They do not hide the fact that they believe children should not be internationally adopted. They feel it is better for a child to live in it's birth country in extreme poverty, than to be adopted (I am not making this up and encourage you to educate yourself on UNICEF). Of course if all of the children were adopted, where would UNICEF get their money? I am speaking to those of you in Homeland Security and the Dept. of State (and I know you continue reading this blog thanks to Google Analytics) - Open Nepal to U.S. adoptions and lead the rest of the World in doing what is right.

Read this that was posted on facebook. I have been posting it to my friends. Puts words to what I have always wanted to try to explain when people ask me why we couldn't adopt form Nepal. My heart was heavy today and many days leading up to today. But this article made me happy. Finally a mainstream article putting the blame where it needs to go. I grieve for the girl in Nepal that will never be my daughter. http://communities.washingtontimes.com/neighborhood/red-thread-adoptive-family-forum/2011/aug/3/united-states-unicef-war-international-adoptions/#.TjoGXcgmnk9.facebook

Thank you for posting about Unicef's detrimental role. It is shameful to say the least. And the DOS needs to educate itself as well. But that is perhaps not to be.
ReplyDeleteA hard day for many of us, but so much harder for the children left behind.
